11 years ago I was having a rather ‘vacuous sit down’ in a hospital in Sydney, Australia. I dragged my feet to the hospital after getting a drunken punch to the tooth and my shirt ripped open. (My favourite shirt at the time.) Not my finest moment I must say but a life lesson which provided great reflection and change to my life. Here’s why. Whilst in my silent-hunched-over-posture in the hospital; I had a realisation that I probably shouldn’t be ‘as cheeky anymore’ to a group of four drunks who had no off switch. Thus: a slight maturation occurred that evening. Lesson 2 arrived at the dentist a day later. Feeling anxious whether I was about to lose my tooth and pondering how much this ‘lovely’ trip to the dentist was going to cost me - on in the background was a film called Bridge of Spies and the scene still plays in my mind today. Tom Hanks asks his defendant, “how are you so stoic during this trial and do you not worry at all?” The affable man returned with: “would it help?” The punch line stopped me ruminating on my worry and helped me see through a different pair glasses. It still plays a role in my life today.
