1) Anxiety is a messenger, and in primordial times that message was to run for the hills when we were in danger. Those primitive fears have now shifted to uncertainty, conflict and the daily reaction to life. But, what if I was to tell you those primitive fears are a good thing? If traffic lights didn’t exist, there would be a lot more fatalities. If we had no pain receptors, the body would be a calamitous walking injury. If we had no anxiety signal, there would be no urgency to change or look within. Which leads me to the first tool: When you’re next anxious, put yourself in the body of a compass which is searching for an answer. “Why am I feeling like this?” “What can I do to find my way out of this feeling?” “How can I take the next step forward?” See anxiety as a chance to grow beyond suffering and an opportunity to change what is most needed.
